There is a heartwarming example of this in FeedingNYC, which was launched while the city was going through a different time of devastation, the tragedy of 9/11.
Back then, with the Thanksgiving holiday on the horizon, Rob LoCascio simply wanted to deliver some turkeys to those who needed them. But what started as a small endeavor for the tech entrepreneur — who invented the live-chat customer support function and whose company LivePerson is now publicly traded and worth billions — to give to those less fortunate, turned into an organization that has fed 80,000 families in the five boroughs since its inception.

You were once fired by fax and that led you to start your own company.
I started my first company about a year out of college because I was fired from this first company. And then I was building interactive kiosks for college campuses from ’91 to ’95. In ’95, that company went under. I moved to New York. I was pretty in the dumps at the time when I lost my first company. I was sleeping on the couch in a small, 200-square-foot or so sublet of a guy who made t-shirts. He subleased a little place in his loft down in Tribeca. I didn’t have a shower, there was just a bathroom that I shared, so I got a health club membership at New York Sports Club, so I could shower. I was getting help at the time, really reworking my thinking and my life, and the guy I was working with said, “You know, even though you’re sleeping on a couch, kind of in the dumps and broke, I think it would be really great if you went out and helped others.”
Then you started volunteering by sleeping with the homeless at St. Bart’s.
They have a shelter where people come in for the night. Volunteers feed the people in the shelter and sleep over and make sure they get up in the morning, have some coffee and go. I did that and it really made me realize that no matter what situation I was in, there are always people less fortunate. That set me straight on no matter how successful you become, you’ve got to give back.
After 9/11, you founded Feeding NYC. Tell us what that first Thanksgiving was like.
After 9/11, I was in the city and it was impactful to all of us, and so I really wanted to give back. I decided to go and deliver turkeys. I was just going to get five or 10 and just find people or families in need. At that time, there were about 20 people in my company in New York, and they heard about it and said, “We’d love to do this too.” So people in the company and a few friends came out. And we found Women in Need, which is a wonderful group that runs shelters in New York City and focuses on families and women who have been battered in tough relationships and end up in these shelters with their families.
What was an unforgettable moment from that first year?
We bought the turkeys from a company and the saleswoman who sold them to us said, “Do you mind if I come with you?” My last turkey delivery was like an act of God. I knock on the door and this kid, he was probably six or seven years old, African American, opened the door, looked up at me and said, “Are you a good person or a bad person?” So I said, “No, I’m a good person.” I knelt down and showed him the turkey and all the trimmings, candied yams, a pie, and he was just like, “Wow.”
And then his sister came out, she was a little bit older. The mother was in the bathroom and when she opened the door and saw this grown man with her children, she came running towards me, screaming, “Get away from my children!” She was running to hit me and knock me over. I said, “No ma’am, I’m here to deliver your turkey dinner,” and I showed her. And she stopped, looked down, looked at me and started to cry and said, “I thought people had forgotten about me.” She hugged me and we talked a little bit more, and she said, “For the rest of my life, when I get out of this shelter, I’m going to feed somebody.” For $35 in product, two people’s lives were changed — my life and her life. I wish I could find this family. Funny enough, when I walked out, the woman who sold us the turkey said, “What happened?” She could see I was visibly changed. She said, “I used to live in this shelter. You don’t know the impact you’re having on people’s lives.”
Who have been some memorable volunteers over the years?
I’ll tell you the most interesting one I’ve had. So I’ll go out in the truck and do the deliveries and remember this couple from the UK was on my truck with their kid. And I was like, “How did you find us?” They said, “We’re on vacation in New York and we just wanted to give back.” We took them around the whole day seeing the city for this vantage point. At the end, we usually go and have a quick meal together. We were up in Harlem and went to Amy Ruth’s and had fried chicken and all of the trimmings. And they said, “This is the most special day we’ve had in our life.” AOC [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] came down three years ago — when she got elected, before she went to Washington — and did the delivery. This year, there was Kimberly Vallejo, from Governor Cuomo’s administration, who is the director at the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets.

With a surge in the number of COVID cases in the state including Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D), the second-term governor immediately announced sweeping coronavirus limitations on a number of businesses across Pennsylvania.
“With these measures in place, we hope to accomplish three goals. First, stop the devastating spread of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth,” Wolf commented. “Second, keep our hospitals and healthcare workers from becoming overwhelmed. And third, help Pennsylvanians get through the holiday season — and closer to a widely available vaccine — as safely as possible.’
Rivers Casino in Philadelphia was the first to close and was enforced on November 20 by the municipality. Now, the remaining casinos in the state must follow suit. It was especially tough news for Live! Casino Pittsburgh, which opened its doors on the 24 of November.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements for amusement cars of the type disclosed in United States Letters Patent No. 1,7 54,112, issued to Robert J. Lusse, under date of April 8, 1930.
Th above mentioned type of amusement car is provided with a rubber bumper which encircles the body of the car for the purpose of absorbing shocks caused by-collision between cars or other obstacles. Damage to the rubber, as a resultof such collision, is prevented by a steel band that is disposed on and extends completely around the outer face of the rubber bumper. The steel band is held in place on the rubber bumper by a leather or other flexible strip which is secured to the steel band and adapted to’flt in a groove provided therefor in the outer face of the rubber bumper. It frequently happens that contraction of the rubber, as produced by a collision of the car with a fixed or movable body, causes the guard band to bulge with respect to the rubber bumper, with the result that the flexible retaining strip attached thereto is dislodged from its supporting groove in the rubber bumper.
The object of my present invention is to prevent bulging of the guard band under the ;circumstances noted, by providing a guard band that is composed of two relatively movable sections which are of such lengths respectively that their adjacent ends overlap, and providing resilient means extending between the sections to take up any slack that may occur in either section of the guard band,
thereby maintaining the flexible f retaining strip at all times in the supporting groove provided therefor in the outer face of the rubber bumper.

Referring to the drawings, 1 is an amusement car having a rubber bumper 2 encircling the car and attached thereto in the manner illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. A groove 3 is provided in the outer face of the rubber bumper 2 and extending longitudinally thereof. The groove 3 is adapted to receive leather or other flexible stripsl and 5 which are secured to the inner faces of the forward and rear guard band sections 6 and 7 respectively. I l What Are Slots In Bumpers
The aforementioned flexible strips 4 and 5 are of such relative lengths and their combined lengths are such, with; respect to the circumferential measurement of the base of the groove 3, that a-space is provided intermediate theopposing’ends of the strips 4 and-5 i-n thegroove 3, on each side of the car, thereby allowingfor relative movement between the opposing ends of the strips 4: and 5, in order that any slack occurring in the band sections 6’ and 7’ maybe taken up, and also providing a’ recess for the reception of the take-up means.
The take-up means in the present instance comprises coiledsprings, or similarly resilient elements, 8, 8. The forward ends of springs 8 are attached to hooks 9respec’tively riveted to the guard band section 6, while the rear ends of springs 8 are attached to one end of a steel block’lO, which is slidably mounted in andwith respect to; the groove .3 in the I rubber bumper .The said rear ends of the springs 8, 8 are disposed in slots 15, 15 formed in the said end of the block 10 and a pin 11 passes through the block, the slots and the ends ofthe springs 8 disposed in the slots to secure the ends of the springs to the block.
The blocks 10 are rigidly attached to the opposite ends of the guard band section 7 each by a studbolt 12 that is riveted in the band section 7 and which passes through an elongated slot l l formed inthe adjacent overlapping end of the band section 6. A spacer element 13 is mounted on the stud 12 and is adapted to slide in the slot 14, formed in guard band section 6, said guard band section 6 being slidably interposed between the aforementioned block 10 and the guard band section 7 said spacers 13 being adapted to maintain the blocks and ends of the guard band 7 in such spaced relation as to permit free longitudinal movement of the ends of the guard band 6 therebetween.
The construction of the bumper is such that there is a constant tightening or foreshortening force exerted on the guard band sections 6 and 7, thereby preventing any slack or bulging from developing in the guard band. The springs 8 are adapted to effect a relative longitudinal movement between the overlapping ends of the guard band sections Grand 7, so that when the car contacts with a fixed abutment or some other movable body, causing a compression of the rubber bumper 2, the leather strips 4 and 5 011 the band sections 6 and 7 will bemaintained within the supporting groove 3 in the bumper 2, so that the guard band will at no time be dislodged from the rubber bumper 2.
The blocks 10 are respectively provided with circular cavities 20, in axial alignment with the openings 21 through which the bolts 12 pass, for the reception of circular nuts 22 having hexagonal heads 23, by means of which the ends of the guard band section 7, the spacers 18 and the blocks 10 are held. rigidly in proper relation to each other to permit the ends of the band section 6 to slide between the blocks 10 and the adjacent ends of the band section 7 7 While I have shown the embodiment of my invention for the purpose of description, it is apparent that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of my invention.

2. In a device of the type described, the combination of a resilient bumper, a split guard band carried by the bumper, and tension means tending to draw the ends of said band toward each other for preventing slack in the band.

In a device of the type described, the combination of a rubber bumper having a longitudinal groove formed therein, a guard band, a supporting strip attached to said guard band and located in the said groove, and tension means tending to shorten said band to retain said supporting strip in said groove.
7 In a device of the type described, the combination of a rubber bumper having a longitudinal groove therein, a guard band comprising a plurality of sections, supporting strips attached to said guardband sections and adapted to be maintained in aforementioned groove, and tension means operatively connecting adjacent ends of said band sections to prevent slack in said guard band whereby the supporting strips are maintained in the groove.

In a device of the type described, the combination of a rubber bumper, a guard band comprising a plurality of sections having their ends overlapping, and springs con-’ necting the ends of adjacent band sections and adapted to afford a relative longitudinal in ’said groove, intermediate the ends of the strips and adapted to afford a relative longitudinal movement between the overlapping ends of the said sections of the guard’band.

In a device ofthe type’described, :the combination of a rubber bumper, a’guard band section having slots formed respectivelyv in the opposite ends thereof, a second guard band section disposed with its ends’over-lapping the ends ofthe first said section, a block the first said section therebetween, and means passing through theslots in the ends’of the first said section to secure the blocks to the ends of the second said section.
11. In a device of the type described, combination of arubber bumper having a longitudinal groove therein, of a forward guard band having slots in the respective V attached to each ofthe opposite ends of sec-- end: said guard band section, and spaced. therefrom in a manner to receive the ends of,
ends thereof, a rear guard band, supporting;
strips on the guard bands disposed in the groove in the bumper, said guard bands-having their ends overlapping, a block’attached to each of the opposite ends of said rear guard band and disposed within the groove in the bumper, said blocks and the adjacent ends of rear guard band being spaced apart to receive the respective ends of the forward guard band therebetween, bolts passing through the slots in the ends of the forward guard band for securin the blocks to the ends of the rear guard band, and springs stretched between and connecting the ends of the front band with the blocks on the rear band. 1

In a device of the type described, the combination of a rubber bumper having a longitudinal groove therein, of a forward guard band having slots in the respective ends thereof, a rear guard band, supporting strips on the guard bands disposed in the groove in the bumper, said guard bands having their ends overlapping, a block attached to each of the opposite ends of said rear guard band and disposed within the groove in the bumper, said blocks and the adjacent ends of rear guard band being spaced a art to receive the respective ends of the orward guard band therebetween, bolts passing through the slots in the ends of the forward guard band for securing the blocks to the ends of the rear guard band, spacers between the blocks and the ends of the rear guard band and adapted to slide within the slots in the forward guard band, and springs stretched between and connecting the ends of the front band with the blocks on the rear band.

Signals and slots are used for communication between objects. The signals and slots mechanism is a central feature of Qt and probably the part that differs most from the features provided by other frameworks.
In GUI programming, when we change one widget, we often want another widget to be notified. More generally, we want objects of any kind to be able to communicate with one another. For example, if a user clicks a Close button, we probably want the window’s close() function to be called.Older toolkits achieve this kind of communication using callbacks. A callback is a pointer to a function, so if you want a processing function to notify you about some event you pass a pointer to another function (the callback) to the processing function. The processing function then calls the callback when appropriate. Callbacks have two fundamental flaws: Firstly, they are not type-safe. We can never be certain that the processing function will call the callback with the correct arguments. Secondly, the callback is strongly coupled to the processing function since the processing function must know which callback to call.
In Qt, we have an alternative to the callback technique: We use signals and slots. A signal is emitted when a particular event occurs. Slots of vegas 300 ndb. The signals and slots mechanism is type safe: The signature of a signal must match the signature of the receiving slot. (In fact a slot may have a shorter signature than the signal it receives because it can ignore extra arguments.) Since the signatures are compatible, the compiler can help us detect type mismatches. Signals and slots are loosely coupled: A class which emits a signal neither knows nor cares which slots receive the signal. Qt’s signals and slots mechanism ensures that if you connect a signal to a slot, the slot will be called with the signal’s parameters at the right time. Signals and slots can take any number of arguments of any type. They are completely type safe.
All classes that inherit from QObject or one of its subclasses (e.g., QWidget) can contain signals and slots. Signals are emitted by objects when they change their state in a way that may be interesting to other objects. This is all the object does to communicate. It does not know or care whether anything is receiving the signals it emits. This is true information encapsulation, and ensures that the object can be used as a software component.
Slots can be used for receiving signals, but they are also normal member functions. Just as an object does not know if anything receives its signals, a slot does not know if it has any signals connected to it. This ensures that truly independent components can be created with Qt.You can connect as many signals as you want to a single slot, and a signal can be connected to as many slots as you need. It is even possible to connect a signal directly to another signal. (This will emit the second signal immediately whenever the first is emitted.)

Very basically, signals and slots in Qt allow communication between objects.
In Qt, a signal is emitted when an event occurs. A slot is a function that is called when a signal is emitted. For example, a push button emits a clicked signal when clicked by a user. A slot that is attached to that signal is called when the clicked signal is emitted.
Multiple signals can be connected to any slot. Signals can be connected to any number of slots.

Unfortunately.. it is overkill for this application. Almost any microphone will be sufficiently linear (i.e., have a flat frequency response) over the 150 - 3500 Hz vocal frequency spectrum, so there is no need for a microphone with a 50Hz-18kHz frequency response. An AudioTEchnica MB-1000L for $45 will sound more clear and crisp, and have equally linear response over the vocal frequency spectrum, as the PR-20.
Nevertheless, the PR-20 IS a particularly handsome, attractive piece of equipment and looks good in the shack. It WILL sound good, and work well with a ham transceiver. It WILL be an excellent vocal microphone, or microphone for general recording, if you ever employ it for other purposes.
So, while you cannot go wrong with the HEIL PR-20 microphone, I feel one can do just as well with many lower cost microphones and use the savings to purchase other goodies for the shack. How do I know? Because I have been a microphone product tester and reviewer, testing a great many different microphones for a different, but closely related commercial purpose, for more than a decade. I received MY PR-20 as partial compensation for writing a product review of it compared to a Sennheiser e835, which costs 2/3 the price of the HEIL PR-20 and is every bit as good. So, while I think the HEIL PR-20 is a very good microphone, it is, ultimately overkill for ham radio purposes, and about $40 over priced compared to the competition.

KE4KVWRating: 2006-01-19GREAT ’NOW’Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.I said ’NOW’ because things started out BAD with the PR-20 on Christmas 2005.I was VERY pleased when I connected the PR-20 into my ICOM 756 PROII BUT then after about 20 minutes that stopped!It then sounded as if a lightning storm was going on every time I transmitted.(SEVERE static) I contacted the dealer where the mike was purchased & he sent me another NEW PR-20 & CC-1XLRI cable.I contacted Bob Heil & he suggested the problem was the ICOM 756 PROII & ’NOT’the microphone or HEIL cable at fault.I sent the mike & cable to Heil for a checkup & found it was the HEIL CABLE that was defective & NOT the ICOM 756 PROII.The second cable sent by the dealer was ALSO defective & returned to him for shipping back to HEIL for repair or replacement.I NOW am VERY happy with the way the PR-20 sounds & get GREAT audio reports WITHOUT any help from external mixers or afte market EQ setups as I did with the ICOM SM-20 I was using before I went to a hands free operation. This mic was better but again sounded restricted & ’boxy’no matter how I ran it either straight into the rig or EQ’ed. I sold the mic & bought a studio electret condenser, an Audio Technica AT4033A.The difference is outstanding!! Solomon Conner released a solo effort “Bringing the Heat” in 2000 followed by the band’s fourth album “Imitations Of Life” issued in 2004 on their own label H-Town Music. WinStar World Casino and Resort is located about 120 miles south from the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and one hour north of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and attracts many people from the North Texas region as well as Oklahoma residents. WinStar World Casino and Resort is home to the 12-story, 395-room WinStar World Casino Hotel that is adjacent to the gaming floor. On August 6, 2009, the 395-room hotel tower held a grand opening celebration that featured performances by American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson and American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Meeting rooms that have varied capacities of 10-200 people, a resort-style pool with a custom-built waterfall grotto, the Spa Habitat, and the Cloverleaf Boutique gift shop also opened on this date. WinStar World Casino and Resort also offers a variety of restaurants, many of which are open until late night hours, including Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill.[26] The second hotel tower, the Pool Tower North, opened in August 2013, while the third hotel tower, the Pool Tower South, opened in early 2014. Both towers have a capacity of 500 rooms each and are adjacent to each other. The Inn at WinStar has 101 rooms, and is accessed from the casino and the RV park by a 24-hour shuttle service. There are around 100 table games at the WinStar World Casino.
